Today while Emily was doing her IXL work we learned about the existence of Citizen Scientists. What is a citizen scientist I hear you say?

What is a Citizen Scientist?

Well a citizen scientist is a scientific Volunteer. This could be classroom’s of students in a school, to families or individuals depending on what a scheme may need.

These volunteers help scientists collect data that otherwise would cost them hours and thousands to do alone and in magnitudes that wouldn’t be accomplished any other way.

I have listed here all the schemes I have found out about so check them out we can’t wait to take part in some other than the great British bird counting going on this week! (Last week in January)

UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology

National Plant Monitoring Scheme

Natural History Museum

National Wildlife Trusts

Countryside Jobs service – ok seems an odd one but they have a huge selection of them.

The British Geological Survey

The Conservation Volunteers

RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch

I honestly think these projects open up amazing experiences.

If you would like to see what we get up to in the wild you can find stories in the 30 day wild or Adventures in the great outdoors topics.
