It’s always nice to go on holiday. Still, when the holiday is heading back to somewhere that was once home and had been home for a long time it’s always that much more emotional and wonderful visiting everyday places you once haunted the holiday becomes a real home from home without need to wear yourself out visiting all those places the area has to offer the tourist community and instead just head to those quiet unknown magical spots instead and that’s what we did we did also head to the Vallee du Singes onroute home but other than that we went to local lakes, friends homes for BBQ’s. Instead of packed beaches, we headed to a friend’s swimming pool or the quiet and beautiful swimming lake of Saint Estephe. It really was a great time away.
The kids spent two weeks forgetting about TV and computers and playing in a grass maze, raking grass, playing with a ribbon on a stick, walking in the local woods, and playing with bats and balls, with not a single “I’m Bored” in sight.

Walking in the woods was always fun and a daily activity, spending hours wandering around, unfortunately we never found the beaver dam that we knew to be around the area, but 5 years is a long time to forget exact locations.

Fun in the sun, making hay in the garden in the first few days of the holiday, because the house is not lived in most of the year, the grass at this time of the year is always a task, although with the help of a sit on mower it is a fun task :0)

Places we visited include St Mathieu, Nontron, Montbron, Rochechouart, Piegut (the weekly Wednesday Market is always a sensation for all the senses, with the smell of olives, the crowds of people and the hustle and bustle of the stall holders all trying to gain your attention)

More fun in the “garden” and a scarecrow walk, spotting all the local scarecrows, which always makes a lovely walk.
